Established in 2022, Temple Cities was founded to answer two questions:

1. What is the most successful system ever invented by humanity for accelerating human flourishing?

2. How do we scale it?

The answer to the first question is the city. The answer to the second is to create a global network of Charter Cities—new cities with wide autonomy to govern themselves. Hong Kong and Shenzhen are archetypes for the best charter cities the world has produced so far.

Both, however, were built by governments. At Temple, we believe scaling charter cities requires applying the best methods of the private sector to make a Hong Kong of any patch of Earth that desires it.

Since our founding, we have operated as a research organization while planning Temple I: our argument for what the greatest city in the world might look like.

We consider this challenge a Manhattan Project for Governance—one which, if successful, will unlock the greatest amount of wealth, purpose, and happiness for humanity. We do not take it lightly, and are committed to spending as much time and resources as possible to get it right.
